Some options include searching online sites and services such as www.gumtree.co.nz, which has a short-term House/Flat category where housesitters can both answer rental ads and post their own 'wanted' ad for free, in many regions around the country.
Or try www.airbnb.com, now six years in business and growing strongly, offering in its own words 'a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world — online or from a mobile phone.' Around NZ homeowners are renting out both self-contained and B&B style accommodation in their homes, often at more cost-effective rates than motels or B&Bs.
Simply searching online for short-term accommodation can also uncover options like weekly or longer-term rates at decent motels, lodges and B&B type accommodation. Sites like www.triviago.com, www.booking.com and www.holidayhouses.co.nz (in the off-season for lower rates) and www.bookabach.co.nz might also present options.
Some of our medium-longer term house sitters who are house sitting to see more of the country are also 'digital nomads' or 'grey nomad's as they like to call themselves, travelling around the country in motorhomes inbetween taking housesits in areas they want to explore and visit.
